A new ground up 9,000 sq. ft. retail center located adjacent to the heavily traveled Milton Avenue retail corridor was designed. The Diamond Center business occupies 5,896 sq. ft. on the first floor and 3,000 sq. ft. on a second floor that overlooks their grand sales floor. The building is also home to Chipotle Mexican Grill (2,284 sq. ft.) and an 800 sq. ft. office space. The design of the building was driven by two main factors, The Diamond Center wanted to maximize the amount of natural light reaching their sales floor, as it is the best light for showcasing their jewelry. In addition, they wanted a prominent entry that would advertise their name-brand and exemplify the sense of arrival to their store. To accomplish these goals, we cantilevered a curtain wall over an angled entry, incorporated a signature wall with sleek tapered wall panels and signage and finally we maximized the amount of glazing facing Milton Avenue to the East and Highway 39/90 to the North. The project stressed a high level of structural design since the owner wanted high ceilings and wide open unobstructed views on the sales floor. The end result was a delicate and volumetric space that represents a reflection of the jewelry showcased within.
