Chain store round-up: 10 pieces to add to cart

15th October, 2021

Looking for a wardrobe update? There are definitely plenty of options out there right now with the new season drops ensuring we’re very much spoilt for choice. So, whether you’ve freshly emerged from lockdown (or are soon to be!) and looking for something fun to wear to a long lunch or you’re wanting to add something to your wardrobe that will see you through the next few months, then it’s the perfect time to check out what your fave chain stores have on offer. Whenever I’m doing this edit I will always inevitably end up with something I want to add to my list. It’s always hard to narrow it down to 10, but I’ve tried to pinpoint the pieces that I think are versatile, wearable and something that you’ll feel good wearing. Happy shopping!

Pink! Sparkly! Fun! This dress has it all and it’s destined to be worn to many an event whether it’s a wedding, a Christmas party or just a special occasion. The ruching, V-neck and cinched in waist are the perfect trio for a super flattering fit so if you want a party dress that you’ll want to wear time and time again, this is it.

These pants are such a great option for spring. The neutral hue makes it easy to pair with multiple looks, and I could see this especially working with a ribbed singlet or a bold shoulder tee. The cropped ankle and the belt also help to achieve a really flattering fit.

Love this pink bodysuit! It’s such a great way to add a splash of colour to an outfit and the ribbed fabric gives it an interesting textural element that adds a level of interest to a look.

Look out for thongs to be everywhere this summer, particularly the heeled or platform variety. These are a great comfy option for wearing when you’re out and about whilst simultaneously ticking the on trend box.

Versatile bags that can work for myriad occasions are definitely a must and the shape and style of this mini shoulder bag with pebbled leather make it the kind of piece that can be worn day in and day out. The relaxed, slightly slouchy vibe is also ticking all the trend boxes so it’s a nice way to update an existing look.

If you’ve yet to invest in a hat for summer, definitely make it a priority. A great wide brimmed hat like this is perfect for wearing everywhere from a picnic, to the beach to just generally being out and about. If there’s one thing that’s a definite must in general but particularly over the coming weeks, it’s a hat that you love wearing.

There are many things to love about this crisp white blouse. The lace trim, the cut out details, the textural finish… a definite winner in the style stakes and something that will work back with myriad looks making it an astute purchase.

A simple style can be transformed with just a few interesting details, like this dress with cut outs. The sleek silhouette is perfect for an event—just add a great pair of earrings, killer heels and you’re done.

Shorts are a no-brainer during summer and this pair is a classic style that has longevity. Clean lines and the neutral hue make it ideal for dressing up or down, plus it’s essentially a blank canvas that you can work myriad pieces with.

Are you sensing a colour theme here..? I can’t get enough of pink and these linen pants are just the vibrant hit of colour your wardrobe needs. Add a great pair of sandals or slides, and a shirt or singlet and you have yourself a winning look.

8 pieces worth snapping up during Vogue American Express Fashion’s Night In

15th October, 2021

Vogue American Express Fashion’s Night In (VAEFNI) is back for 2021, celebrating Australia’s amazing fashion, beauty and retail industry. This year VAEFNI will feature a series of unmissable virtual experiences and an offer for American Express Card Members.

The event is taking place from Oct 15-24 and as there are so many online shopping offers available, if you’ve got a healthy shopping list of items you want to buy then it’s the perfect time to do so! I’ve got a few things I’ve had my eye on and I’m definitely going to take the opportunity to snap them up. As with any shopping event I like scoping out what’s on offer ahead of time to ensure I’m making a considered buy and these are the pieces I definitely think are worth a place in anyone’s wardrobe. Ready, set, shop!

Camilla and Marc Minsk Dress

The vibrant shade of yellow made me stop in my tracks when I saw this dress and then I fell in love with the details. The print is gorgeous and such a classic, but it was the intricate tie detail that had me sold. It makes for a striking addition to the design, and it looks even better at the back. The drop waist also adds a sophisticated feel.

Dion Lee Lung Twist Dress

I’m a huge fan of Dion Lee from way back and this just dress just cemented my love for the brand even more. Look at that twist detail! The corrugated pleats achieve a bold textural effect that make this dress perfect for a big event. The mid length style and long sleeves also aid the dramatic effect this look achieves. Consider this your little white dress for events season.

Viktoria & Woods Fleetwood Jean

I’ve invested in a few pairs of jeans from Viktoria & Woods in the past and can attest to the cut, fit and style. They’re a versatile jean that sits well, is flattering and can be dressed up or down. This wide leg pair in a crisp white is a perfect spring piece that can be worked into so many different looks and adds a new season freshness to any ensemble.

Image: Viktoria & Woods

Viktoria & Woods Coty One Piece

I adore one pieces and they’ve quickly become my go-to when it comes to swimwear. The one shoulder silhouette is very on trend and is definitely the swimwear silhouette of the season. The double straps add a touch of drama, lifting this design from just any ol’ black swimsuit! What I love about swimwear like this is that it can also double as a bodysuit, giving you twice as many outfit options, and makes it a high contender for the must-pack piece for any summer holiday.

Image: Viktoria and Woods

Viktoria & Woods Ironside Trench

Summer trenches are a big trend and it’s no wonder because with such a failsafe fashion staple, why just save it for one season? The cut is perfect for wearing over denim or popped on nonchalantly over a dress and it can be worn virtually all year round. It definitely makes for a great cost per wear buy.

Lululemon Align Tank Top

I can’t seem to wean myself off activewear. It’s just too comfy an outfit option! This tank works great as a set when worn with the matching leggings and can easily transition from workout to coffee. It comes in an array of colours so if you’re wanting to mix and match or just want something a bit more bold, this is definitely a tank top worth considering.

Image: Lululemon

Lululemon Align High-Rise Leggings

All my leggings are high waisted because I find they’re more flattering and I love the support and coverage they offer. This pair by Lululemon is a great cut and length and when worn with the above tank it’s a pairing that you can wear exercising or just out and about.

Aje Serendipity Cut Out Dress

How dreamy is this dress? Aje can always be relied on to produce the kind of dresses that you just want to wear and this is such a great option for summer. Featuring the brand’s signature puffy sleeves and cutout detail it’s a bold dress that’s injected with a little playfulness. Another must-have from one of my fave Aussie labels.

24 things you’ll want to wear on your next picnic

6th October, 2021

Image: Svetlana Kuznetsova on Unsplash

Heading out on a picnic has very much become the social occasion of late, particularly in Sydney where at the moment, it’s one of the few ways we can socialise. So, it’s definitely become a great excuse to get dressed up and rock a new look, because let’s face it, we’re all looking for any reason to wear something that doesn’t involve activewear or a tracksuit. I love loungewear as much as the next person but sometimes you just want to get all dolled up!

Given the glorious spring weather, it’s a great time to embrace bold prints, pretty dresses and cute accessories to liven up a look. In doing this edit, I’ve pulled together pieces to suit whatever your picnic attire preference—whether you’re after comfy and cool such as shorts and an oversized button down, or a fun and flirty frock, there’s definitely something here that you’ll want to wear when you’re enjoying the company of friends and basking in the sun in the great outdoors. While you’ve got your outfit sorted, don’t forget about your accessories! It’s the perfect time to embrace a bold pair of sunglasses or a playful tote. As for footwear, you can go for a classic pair of white sneakers or an on trend pair of thongs. BYO picnic blanket and snacks!

The Aussie labels I’m shopping for spring

20th September, 2021

Wearing one my faves – a one shoulder Bondi Born swimsuit

Shopping for my spring/summer wardrobe is always one of my favourite things to do because I love the lightweight, easy breezy pieces that are around this time of year. I have my go-to labels when it comes to pieces that are perfect for the upcoming warmer weather and they’re all homegrown. Australian brands do resortwear so beautifully and really know how to build a collection that’s perfectly suited for long balmy days without compromising on style.

Before buying anything I always review what I already own to see what gaps I need to fill, or where I can use new pieces to build on existing looks. For me, it’s all about beautiful dresses, simple cuts and breathable fabrics. I live near the beach so I tend to favour lots of relaxed pieces that I can easily wear from home to sand then out to drinks or wherever the day may take me. And this spring, these are the brands I’m all about.

Bondi Born

If you want elevated swimwear that’s sleek and sexy you can’t go past Bondi Born. I think Aussie brands just know how to do swim so beautifully and I’m never disappointed with what I see from this brand. The swimsuit I’m wearing above is from a previous collection and it’s so perfect for relaxing by the pool or at the beach, but it can also double as a bodysuit by pairing with with wide leg pants or a skirt or shorts. The cuts are super flattering and I love the simple colour palette they have in their range.

Steele

My go-to for summer dresses! Whenever I post an outfit shot of me wearing a Steele dress I will inevitably always receive DMs about it. The label just does great prints and their silhouettes are always so beautifully feminine. They really know how to create a dress that ticks all the boxes.

Camilla and Marc

I’ve been a fan of Camilla and Marc since the very beginning because without fail they always do great on-trend pieces that are perfecting for topping up my wardrobe. I find they always nail the silhouette of the season and will bring out a print or style that’s guaranteed to have people lining up to snap it up! If I’m looking for something new that’s guaranteed to be worn to death and still make a statement I know I can rely on this brand.

Venroy

Simple lines and styles is what Venroy does best and it’s why I keep coming back. They do such wearable, versatile pieces that I can wear over and over again, and will see me through season after season. I have a weakness for their linen pieces as they’re always so beautifully soft (and perfect for transitioning from spring to summer), but I also can’t go past their slightly bolder pieces. I have a striped set from Venroy that I wore non-stop last summer and will continue doing so this summer.

The new matching set to have in your wardrobe this spring

17th September, 2021

Looking to invest in something new for your spring wardrobe? My latest fave is a matching set of the skirt and top variety. I wear the above Manning Cartell skirt set to death, both as a matching pair and also as separates. Versatility is key in my book and I adore co-ord sets for that reason— you can get multiple looks from just one set. While wearing a matching top and bottom is nothing new, I do love the freshness of a skirt and top combination. It feels feminine, modern and very on trend.

There are a few different styles out there right now which are just perfect for this time of year. I love the simple stretchy knit skirt and relaxed top that I’m wearing above as I like a streamlined silhouette but there’s definitely plenty of options out there. You could opt for a slightly more bohemian vibe with a floaty skirt and a peasant style blouse or go the completely opposite direction and embrace something sleek and sexy with a crop and pencil-style midi skirt. One of the best things about wearing a set like this is that you have an instantly polished look on your hands—there’s just no denying that a matching look just presents very put together and elevated. It’s easily one of my favourite wardrobe short cuts! Plus you can dress it up or down depending on your choice of accessories and shoes. A simple slingback and a statement earring is one of my tried and tested ways to accessorise this look, but you could opt for anything from sneakers to sandals or heels. The options are endless.

So, if you want to invest in something that you’ll wear to death, sidesteps wardrobe dilemmas and has plenty of versatility, I think you can’t go wrong with any of the options below.

Pieces that you can buy now and wear post-lockdown

11th September, 2021

With more time at home, and online shopping almost becoming a number one past time it’s easy to get caught up in buying up big when it comes to lounge wear, active wear and things that are generally made for staying in. However at some point we won’t be spending so much time at home so it pays to start thinking strategically when it comes to what you’re adding to cart.

While there’s no harm buying really comfortable pieces now, it’s worth looking for particular styles and silhouettes that will seamlessly fit into your post-lockdown wardrobe. An abundance of tracksuit sets are great now for example but you may find you don’t have as much use for as many of them once you start inching back to some semblance of normality. That said comfort is still key in the meantime! So right now it’s about merging the two worlds to help you snap up some versatile wardrobe buys. Whether it’s pieces that can be worked into your office wardrobe or elevated basics that can be utilised for a night out, there’s definitely plenty of scope to snap up things that will be able to have longevity long after lockdown is lifted (which hopefully is sooner rather than later!).

So if you’re in the mood to snap up some new pieces, here are a few great places to start.

Best buys under $100

10th September, 2021

Spring has sprung which means it’s time to refresh your wardrobe for the new season. Shopping for spring/summer pieces has to be one of my favourite things to do because who can resist floaty dresses, punchy accessories and statement pieces that are designed for welcoming the warm weather and balmy nights ahead. The great thing is there are some great buys that will add a fun touch to your looks, and they won’t break bank either. It’s always fun to do the edit for this post as it demonstrates that with a little time, some strategic shopping and perseverance you can totally update your look and it doesn’t have to cost you a fortune.

This dress is marked as a beach dress but it’s such a cute style why would you just save it for just that one occasion? It’s a great colour and the shirred bodice and ruffles are adorable.

Pops of colour are made for spring. Brighten up your looks with vibrant shades to make a statement. Buy this dress now and bookmark it for a night out.

How cool is this design? Love the chunky wedge but the chain ankle strap makes it feel modern and fresh. This would most definitely work for many an occasion and instantly update an outfit.

Crisp white tops are perfect for spring. This style is ridiculously affordable and the crossbody silhouette and just the right amount of sheerness makes it the ideal pairing for everything from denim to your favourite skirt or pants.

Little details can truly elevate a simple piece. The rainbow shirring on this top is so much fun. It would add a subtle hit of colour to any look and the style with its puff sleeves is just the perfect on trend piece to take you through the next few months.

Don’t have a pair of white shorts in your closet? Rectify that immediately. These would go with absolutely everything and work for myriad occasions. Wear it to the beach one minute or dress it up for drinks with the girls the next.

This is one of those staple pieces that you’ll no doubt wear multiple times throughout spring/summer. It’s perfect for dressing down with sandals or dressing it up with heels.

I can attest to the versatility of a gold medallion necklace because I wear mine all the time. This is such an affordable piece and would work well in adding an understated yet stylish touch to almost any outfit.

Sunglasses are one of the easiest ways to update a new season wardrobe. Love the flat top and tortoiseshell combination—a majorly on trend piece at a seriously good price.

Gold earrings are one of my failsafe accessory options when it comes to dressing up an ensemble. These are an interesting shape and would quickly become a go-to when you want to finesse a simple outfit.

Chain store round-up: 10 pieces to add to cart

3rd September, 2021

The start of a new season is always a great excuse to start perusing what’s in store. It seems the chain stores are really bringing their spring A-game with lots of great pieces on offer. If you’re looking for some gorgeous dresses to bookmark for an outing, an event or simply just to make the most of the sunshine then you won’t be disappointed. That said there are also some fun picks that not only tick the style box but are also versatile enough to work back with so many different pieces. Get ready to welcome the warmer weather around the corner with this chain store round-up and start creating some of your go-to looks for spring.

An elegant and sleek dress to add to your spring repertoire. This is the kind of dress destined for long lunches, cocktails in hand. Add some statement jewellery and a beautiful minimalist sandal and you’re set.

I have two sleeveless tees with shoulder pads in black and white and I wear them non-stop so I was quite excited to see this elevated take on it. Love that it’s a crisp white linen and the boxy silhouette makes it a more fashion-ey piece to pair with everything from denim to your fave skirt or shorts.

This chambray dress is a good one to have in your style arsenal. It’s a no-fuss piece that can easily be thrown on to head to the shops or out to dinner.

I’m a big fan of oversized shirts and this one from Cotton On is actually beach attire but I think it could easily become a staple of your casual wardrobe. It comes in a range of colours so you can grab it in other hues too.

Splashing out on a new pair of sunnies at the start of a season is such an easy way to update your wardrobe. This tortoiseshell pair is modern and quite the statement piece so it’s guaranteed to lift any look.

The first thing to note: this top also comes in black and oatmeal, and I’d definitely grab those too. The simple silhouette makes it extremely versatile and I particularly like the square neckline.

Linen pants are a constant in my spring/summer wardrobe and a neutral pair is just the thing to anchor a look. Team it with a tee or a relaxed shirt and some slides or sandals and you’ve got the blueprint for a look you can wear all season long.

A white sandal like this will take you far when it comes to your outfit repertoire. I’d pair this with a dress or a skirt or even jeans, plus the neutral hue makes it easy to work back with multiple looks.

Looking to add a new skirt to your wardrobe? Make it this one. The voluminous silhouette is elegant, and would look so good dressed up or down. You could also choose to pair it with the matching top and take it up to event territory.

A pastel blue dress seems so fitting to welcome spring. It’s fresh and feminine and would be flattering on different shapes. Also a long sleeved dress always gets a tick in my book.

Style update: 10 things to add to your 2021 spring wardrobe

1st September, 2021

Hello, spring! The change in season means it’s time to revisit your closet and start considering the pieces that will update your wardrobe for the coming months. I for one can’t wait to embrace lighter and brighter clothes and put my winter woolies into hibernation for another year. Transseasonal weather is also upon us so it’s time to start finding pieces that will not only work when the weather goes from cool one minute to warm the next, but also transition seamlessly into the core of your spring wardrobe. Ready to get started? Here’s what’s worth adding to your new season shopping list.

A jumpsuit

I love an all-in-one option for easy dressing. I fell in love with the above denim jumpsuit from AGolde as it felt fresh and perfect for a new season. It’s also comfy too! You don’t have to go for denim if that’s not your thing (although it is quite versatile), you could easily opt for a print or a solid block colour if that works more seamlessly with your wardrobe.

Chunky sandal

The dad style sandal made bonafide fashion staple by Chanel is back again. So don’t be afraid to embrace chunky footwear to take you through this season. I can guarantee you’ll wear them to death and find them unbelievably versatile.

Trench coat

A lightweight trench is just the thing to get you through transseasonal weather as it can take be thrown over virtually any outfit. It’s also a classic piece that’s guaranteed to be a forever staple. It’s definitely a worthwhile investment.

Puff sleeve dress

Puff sleeves have been a thing for a few seasons now so for spring it’s hardly surprising that one of the must-haves of any wardrobe should be a dress with billowy sleeves. The look is one that feels polished and feminine and will make for the perfect anchor piece for any spring look.

Cullottes

Wide leg pants are such a great alternative to jeans as they’re easily dressed up or down and comfortable too. You can pair them with sneakers and a tee but switch it up with a blouse and a heel to take it into night out or office territory.

White blouse

A white shirt is the kind of thing that will be eternally stylish but this season it’s definitely worth experimenting with a few different silhouettes. Embrace a puff sleeve, intricate detailing, ruched finishes, an oversized cuff… the list goes on but the main aim should be to look for a style that’s a little more daring than your usual trusty button down.

Asymmetrical top

I love experimenting with different silhouettes and necklines, and one of the great trends I’m seeing is an asymmetrical neckline. It’s definitely the kind of piece that will update existing pieces in your closet. Look for the asymmetrical neckline to appear in everything from dresses to tops and swimwear over the coming months.

Skirt co-ord set

I’m a huge fan of co-ord sets and this season I think one of the best styles is a knit top and midi skirt set. I’ve embraced them for a few seasons now and this spring it’s definitely a great go-to look to have up your sleeve. It’s effortless and chic, but requires minimal fuss to put the look together.

White sneaker

White sneakers aren’t going anywhere but this season the style is a little more sporty—think a hybrid between a casual and an athletic sneaker. You’ll be able to pair it with everything from a dress to jeans so it’s the kind of shoe that will get you through the season and beyond.

White jeans

Freshen up your denim for spring with a pair of white jeans. You can embrace the comfort of trusty blue jeans while keeping it a little lighter and brighter for the change in seasons.

Tracksuits you’ll want to wear at home and out and about

27th August, 2021

Who could’ve predicted that tracksuits would become a bonafide fashion trend? I’ve obviously always loved trackies for wearing at home but these days it’s had a glow up that sees it being worn in an elevated way. Yes, elevated! It can be hard to think of a tracksuit being anything other than something to lounge around in but trust me when I say that you can absolutely get away with wearing it out and about. It’s just about choosing the right kind of style and pairing it with pieces that can turn it into something a bit more fashion-ey. So, what are some things to keep in mind?

Match it up

When looking for tracksuits go for a matching set. Nothing says polished like co-ordination so opt for a jumper and pants that go together. I’ve favoured hues like grey, beige, grey and khaki when it comes to the tracksuits I’ve been wearing of late, but you can totally embrace more vibrant colours. In particular I think pastel hues look great and are wonderful for adding some colour to a look.

Accessorise

You can accessorise tracksuits with some of the more polished pieces in your closet and you have yourself a truly stylish (and ridiculously comfy) look! Popping a trench over a tracksuit is a quick shortcut to looking stylish, and don’t be afraid to throw on a great statement bag or accessorise with jewellery.

Go for sneakers or sandals

You can go for two options with tracksuits and I think that’s a pair of white sneakers and dad sandals. The chunky vibe of both these types of footwear works well with the more casual silhouette of a tracksuit and offers a grounding element to the look.

Opt for a relaxed fit

The beauty of a tracksuit is its designed to be comfortable so go for a relaxed silhouette. You don’t want anything skin tight, think a little oversized when it comes to choosing a style.

Look at the detail

Yes, tracksuits these days most definitely come with a little extra detail. For example a quarter zip style neckline looks so on trend, while subtle logos are also very much in keeping with what’s currently in vogue.
